CIT Conference

So far the Conference on Instructional Technology in Nashville has been great. I have learned how to trout-slap and throw sheep and cows in FaceBook. Also, I am hoping that this code will show up as a VoiceThread link.

Bye for now,

It's May Already?

I can't believe it's been three months since I've posted. A lot has happened, and mostly it's been good. I'm immersed in finishing up final grades for the semester. Perhaps after this ordeal is over, I'll have some time to blog.

Coming up:

Trip to Atlanta to see The Gates of Paradise
Garden report
Trip to Seattle and Friday Harbor

News from February

We've been pretty busy around here. Tom, DV, and I went to a meeting yesterday for the juniors and parents at St. Andrews to talk about college applications and got a lot of good information. The main thing for DV to remember is to get a good "fit" between herself and the institution she chooses. Famous names and rankings and price don't have that much to do with a good decision.

Tom and I just returned from a conference in Jacksonville, Florida, where I gave a talk on ePortfolios and eKnowlegebases. It went well. We had some fun walking around the city and spending a little time together.

Last night, there was a big storm, and the power went out. Using candles made me wonder why we need so much electricity in our lives.

Marianne's Poem "My Home"

Here is a poem from Marianne, who is 13-almost-14. I think it is a work of genius.

Where I'm From

I'm from the callouses on Dad's fingertips
and late nights up to play video games.

I'm from the itchy raft in the Landtrust pond,
from Spring Cleaning with loud Beatles music,
the carpet of shirts near my closet,
and the sand that still wouldn't wash out of my hair-
a week from the end of the beach trip.

I am from Lex Luthor and Master Chief,
and also "your mom" and "your face."

I'm from my kitten and the first time she felt snow,

lobster rolls in a salty Maine harbor,
and the smell of new shoes.

I am from
My Home.
